Made-to-measure complete bedroom: bed base, headboard and mattress

Short answer: choose the width of the bed first, then the mattress, bed base and headboard in that same size. In Portugal the mattress and bed base must be the same size, and the headboard follows the width (90, 140, 160 or 180 cm). Dreamura's Complete Bedroom sets already include the three matched pieces, in widths 90, 140 and 160.

I'm Ana Cristina, Dreamura's Sleep Advisor. This guide brings together what we have already explained in separate articles and joins it into one path. If you need the detail on each piece, they are all linked: mattress sizes, how to choose a bed base and how to choose a headboard.

Which sizes exist and what each piece costs

Bed bases come in 190x90, 190x140, 200x90, 200x140, 200x160 and 200x180. Headboards come in 90, 140, 160 and 180 cm. The prices below are the lowest listed in the store for each size.

Bed Bed base from Headboard from Kumo mattress from Takumi mattress from Complete Bedroom from
90 279 € 259 € 149 € 439 € 909 €
140 309 € 329 € 219 € 599 € 1119 €
160 329 € 359 € 249 € 669 € 1239 €
180 359 € 419 € 269 € 769 € no set (see below)

The 150 size exists in mattresses, but not in bed bases or headboards. For a complete bed, the route is 140 or 160. For the 180 width, the Takumi Sanctuary (complete bedroom with bed linen) comes in 200x180 from 1999 €.

The bed base figures are for the Tapi Kobe, the headboard figures for the Tokyo, and the mattress figures for the Kumo and the Takumi. The Complete Bedroom column shows the lowest set for each width, with bed linen, and the list is in Complete Bedroom.

How to set up the bedroom, step by step

  1. Measure the room. Leave about 60 cm free on each side and at the foot of the bed. Measure the door and the entry route as well.
  2. Fix the width. 90 for one person, 140 as a minimum for two, 160 or 180 when there is more space or one of you moves a lot. If in doubt between two sizes, take the larger.
  3. Choose the mattress. It is the only piece that affects your body. Decide height and firmness (the mattress guide helps). If the right size doesn't exist, mattresses can be made made to measure.
  4. Choose the base. Dreamura bed bases are 30 cm high in total. With a 26 cm Takumi, the bed surface sits 56 cm off the floor.
  5. Finish with the headboard. With both heights fixed, you know how much will show. The headboards are compatible with Dreamura bed bases and with frames from 90 to 180 cm.
  6. Choose the colour. Bed base and headboard come in water-repellent fabric in taupe, grey, anthracite and white.

If the goal is to furnish several beds, the guide to furnishing a holiday rental does the sums per unit.

When to buy separately and when as a set

As a set, the pieces arrive matched and you decide once. Separately, you choose each finish, for example the tapered, rectangular or metal legs of the Nara and Akita bed bases, or a headboard of another design. There are also bed-only packs (bed base and mattress) in Packs.

A complete bed is decided by size and height, not by the catalogue. Whoever does that sum first rarely gets the rest wrong. If you are in doubt, call me: +351 21 150 95 04. I'll help in 10 minutes. — Ana Cristina, Sleep Advisor
