Mattress for Hot Sleepers: Springs or Foam
Partilhar
Short answer: if you run warm at night, choose pocket springs over foam. Springs let air circulate beneath the body. In the Dreamura range, the Mizu and the Sora have no memory foam. The mattress is only one part: room temperature and bed linen weigh as much as it does.
Why the mattress can make the heat worse
To fall asleep, the body needs to drop by about 1 °C. On warm nights that is harder. If the mattress holds heat next to the body, the room is not the only problem.
Traditional memory foam sleeps hot. Pocket springs let air circulate between them. That structural difference is what counts, and it is why the Mizu is more ventilated than the Takumi.
Which mattress to choose, by profile
Prices are "from", in the smallest size (190x90). All have a 100-night home trial, a 10-year warranty and are made in Portugal.
| If you... | Choose | Why | When not to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Run warm at night and prefer a firm, traditional feel | Mizu, from €329 (190x90) | Pocket springs and high resilience foam, no memory foam. Air circulates between the springs. High firmness, 23 cm. | If you sleep on your side: there can be pressure on the shoulders. See the Sora. |
| Run warm at night and sleep on your side | Sora, from €309 (190x90) | Mitsunowa pocket springs with 3 zones, without the warm feel of memory foam. Medium firmness, 20 cm. | If you sleep on your stomach: medium firmness can let the pelvis sink. See the Mizu. |
| Run a little warm, but want the cradle of memory foam | Takumi, from €439 (190x90) | Pocket springs with memory foam on top and a breathable fabric. Medium firmness, 26 cm. | If heat is your main problem: it is less ventilated than the Mizu. See the Mizu or the Sora. |
| Need a ventilated mattress at an entry price | Kumo, from €149 (190x90) | High resilience foam, ventilated, with an anti-dust-mite treatment. Medium firmness, 20 cm. | If you are looking for your long-term bed: it is an entry point, not a mattress for prolonged main use. |
"If you run warm, start with the construction. Pocket springs first, firmness second." — Ana Cristina, Sleep Advisor
The limits of this recommendation
All-foam mattresses, such as the Hisui and the Shinobi, ventilate less than springs, and the product sheets say so. If you run very warm, they are not the first option. The Kaizen has a layer designed to be more breathable, but it is still foam. In very hot climates, a cooling mattress topper helps.
Changing mattress does not fix a bedroom that is too hot. Before spending, see the guide on the ideal bedroom temperature. Cotton or linen bed linen also counts. And then there is the pillow: the Shinsen (from €69) regulates temperature through the night. See also the cooling pillows.
If the sweating is intense, frequent or new, the mattress is not the most likely cause. Speak to your doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Does the mattress really make a difference when I run warm?
It is part of the answer. Pocket springs let air circulate, and foam ventilates less. But room temperature, bed linen and the pillow weigh as much as the mattress.
Does a memory foam mattress always sleep hot?
Traditional memory foam sleeps hot, and the Kaizen product sheet says so. That is why we designed the Nemuri Comfort layer to be more breathable. If you run very warm, pocket springs are the safest option.
Mizu or Sora, if I run warm at night?
Both have pocket springs and no memory foam. The difference is firmness: the Mizu is high firmness and suits back or stomach sleepers. The Sora is medium firmness and suits side sleepers.
Can I try the mattress at home before deciding?
Yes. All mattresses have a 100-night home trial and a 10-year warranty. If you don't adapt, returns are free of charge.
