Hybrid Mattress: What It Is and Its Advantages (2026 Guide)

A hybrid mattress combines two support systems into one piece: pocket springs at the bottom and foam layers at the top. This is the structure of our best-selling mattress, the Takumi (匠, "master artisan"), and a good part of the Dreamura range. Here, I explain what changes compared to an all-foam or all-spring mattress, and for whom it makes sense.

What is a hybrid mattress

Hybrid means two technologies in the same mattress. The base is a pocket spring system — each spring encased in its own fabric pocket, working independently. On top are one or more layers of foam: viscoelastic (memory foam), high resilience (HR), or both.

The idea is simple. The springs provide support and allow air to circulate. The foam on top relieves pressure on the shoulders and hips. You get the firm support of the springs and the conforming comfort of the foam without having to choose just one.

If you want to understand the difference between the two isolated materials, I wrote this guide: Pocket springs vs. viscoelastic: which to choose.

The advantages, one by one

  • Independent support. Each spring responds to the point where your body is. Your spine stays aligned without sinking in the middle.
  • Less motion transfer. When your partner turns over, the springs on your side barely move. For couples, this is the most noticeable difference.
  • More ventilation. The spring structure allows air to pass through. It heats up less than a solid foam mattress — useful if you sweat at night.
  • Top pressure relief. The viscoelastic or HR layer conforms to the body and relieves tension from pressure points.
  • Durability. The springs maintain firmness over the years. All our mattresses come with a 10-year warranty.

Dreamura hybrid mattresses

We have several, with different firmness levels. Choose according to your profile:

Model Structure Firmness Ideal for
Takumi Pocket springs + viscoelastic + HR, 26 cm Medium Mixed sleeping positions, couples with different profiles
Sora Pocket springs (3 zones) + HR Medium Those who sleep primarily on their side
Samurai Pocket springs + high resilience Firm Those who need full support, medium-high weight

When a hybrid is not the best choice

If you're looking for the sensation of sinking into viscoelastic memory foam, without feeling the springs underneath, an all-foam mattress will serve you better. This is the case with the Hisui (high resilience + viscoelastic, firm, 26 cm, recommended for lower back pain and back sleepers) and the Shinobi (viscoelastic + high resilience, no springs, medium firmness, 30 cm, the tallest in the range). Springs provide responsiveness; pure foam provides conforming comfort. Different bodies and preferences call for different things.

Hybrid, spring, or foam: how to decide

There's no one best mattress — there's the right one for you. If you sleep with a partner and you both move a lot, a hybrid is the solution. If you get hot at night, a hybrid ventilates. If you want pure, conforming memory foam, go for foam.
