Mattreness mattress alternative: foam, springs and what changes in the choice

If you are looking for a Portuguese mattress brand sold online, sooner or later you will come across Mattreness. It started in Vila Nova de Gaia in 2020, sells direct to the consumer and uses the same arguments we do — national manufacturing, 100 nights of trial, 10-year warranty, free shipping. It is the competitor that occupies the same space we do.
I am writing this as Dreamura's Sleep Advisor. So I will start with what Mattreness has and we do not.
Two things Mattreness does and we do not
1. A mattress with one half firm and one half soft
It is called the M-Dual. It is a 25 cm mattress in which one side of the bed is firm and the other is soft, within the same block. For a couple where one person sleeps on their side and the other on their back, it is a direct answer to a real problem.
Dreamura has no equivalent. If that is what you need, there is no point in my pushing something else. Our answer to the same problem is different and more indirect: choose a medium firmness that suits both, or adjust individual comfort with a mattress topper on one side and different pillows. It works in many cases, but it is not the same as two sides in one mattress.
For context: the M-Dual costs 579,90 € in 140x190 and 645,90 € in 160x200, and does not exist in a single size.
2. Choosing the firmness without changing the price
The M-Lux, 25 cm, is sold in three firmness levels — firm, medium and soft — all at the same price. The firmness is chosen the way a size is chosen.
At Dreamura it does not work that way. Each firmness is a different mattress, with a different build and a different price. That has an advantage — each model is designed from the ground up for that firmness — and a disadvantage, which is that it makes you choose between models rather than between options.
The number worth reading before you buy
Both brands offer 100 nights of trial. The difference is in what happens if you return the mattress.
The Mattreness warranty and returns page states, as of the date of this article, that the collection process carries a fixed fee of 100 € in mainland Portugal, for mattresses bought from 8 February 2026 onwards. It also indicates a minimum adaptation period of three to four weeks, a limit of one mattress per address, and that they do not do exchanges, only returns. On accessories the trial is 30 nights and the return is at the customer's expense.
At Dreamura, within the 100 nights, collection is free and the amount is refunded. You do not have to justify it, you do not have to keep the packaging and you do not have to take the mattress anywhere. It is explained in detail in how the 100 nights work.
This is not a footnote detail. A home trial exists so that you can change your mind — if changing your mind costs 100 €, the trial is something else.

Foam and springs are not the same choice
This is the structural difference between the two ranges, and the one that weighs most on comfort.
The Mattreness range is all foam. The M-Lux and the M-Dual combine open-cell foam at 50 kg/m³, memory foam at 50 kg/m³ and support foam at 30 kg/m³. The M-Basic, 18 cm, has only the support foam at 30 kg/m³. There is no pocket-spring model in the range.
Dreamura has both builds. Four pocket-spring mattresses — Sora (20 cm), Mizu (23 cm), Takumi (26 cm) and Samurai (30 cm) — and five in high-resilience or memory foam.
When springs genuinely matter:
- If you get warm during the night. Springs let air move through the inside of the mattress. Foam, by definition, does not have that space.
- If there is a large weight difference in the couple. Pocket springs work point by point and give way only where there is load, which reduces the rolling-to-the-middle effect.
- If you need firm support in different zones. A good spring layer gives firmness at the lower back without hardening the shoulder area.
And when foam is the right choice: if you sleep alone, if you are a light sleeper and want the full motion isolation that memory foam gives, or if you are looking for a lower mattress that is easier to handle. The difference you only notice when the mattress arrives
Beyond mattresses, Mattreness sells five accessories: two pillows, a duvet, a protector and a topper. It does not sell bed bases, it does not sell headboards and it does not sell sheets.
This matters more than it seems at the moment the mattress reaches the house. A new mattress on top of a twenty-year-old slatted base stops being a new mattress after six months — the sagging slats transfer into the foam. And the height of the base decides whether you get up with effort or without it.
Dreamura makes the whole bed: bed bases in five models, headboards in seven, bed linen in percale cotton and sateen, protectors, toppers and 25 pillow references. All made in Portugal, and all designed to fit with the rest.
If you only need a mattress, this says nothing to you. If you are putting a bedroom together, it says everything.
So which one to choose
- If you need two sides with different firmness in one mattress, Mattreness has the M-Dual and we have no equivalent.
- If you want pocket springs — because you get warm at night, because there is a large weight difference in the couple, or because you prefer the feel of springs — Mattreness has no such model and we have four.
- If you are looking for memory foam of 25 cm or more, the Hisui at 26 cm is 439 € in the standard double, against 479,90 € for the M-Lux.
- If the budget decides, the Hirune starts at 115 € and the Kumo at 149 €, both in single.
- If you are putting the whole bedroom together, base and headboard included, only one of the two brands does it.
- If you really intend to use the home trial, read the return conditions of both before deciding. That is where the difference shows.
A mattress is not chosen by the brand, it is chosen by the build and by the position you sleep in. The useful question is not which brand is best — it is whether you get warm at night, whether you sleep on your side, and whether there are two people of different weights in the same bed. The answers to that decide almost everything.

Both state Portuguese manufacturing. Mattreness started in Vila Nova de Gaia in 2020 and indicates that its foams are produced and cut in Europe and its fabrics come from a national textile supplier. Dreamura manufactures its entire range in Portugal, from mattresses to bed bases, headboards and bed linen.
How much does the cheapest mattress from each brand cost?
