Pikolin Mattress Alternative: Factual Comparison (2026)
Partilhar
If you are comparing a Pikolin mattress with other options before deciding, this article is for you. I compare the points that make a real difference in the purchase: where it is made, how it is sold, what range you have, how you choose the firmness, how you test it at home, and what warranty you get. No value judgements — facts, so you can decide calmly.
Who is Pikolin
Pikolin was founded in 1948, in Spain, as a small mattress factory. Today it is the largest Spanish group in the sleep sector, with mattresses, bed frames, bases, pillows and textiles. It was the first company in the sector to obtain ISO 9002 certification for its quality system, in 1996, later updated to ISO 9001.
In Portugal the group has Pikolin Lusitana, a manufacturing unit in the Seixal Industrial Park, in Aldeia de Paio Pires. The brand reaches consumers mostly through retailers: furniture chains, specialist sleep stores and large retail outlets.
The most concrete difference: the sales model
Pikolin sells mostly through third parties. Between the factory and your home there is at least one retail margin, and whoever advises you in the store works with several brands at the same time — which can be good (you see several options side by side) or less good (the recommendation is not always neutral).
Dreamura mattresses are made in Portugal and sold directly, without intermediaries. It is not better or worse in the abstract — it is a different structure, which is reflected in the final price and in who serves you. If you want to understand the mechanics, I wrote about it in direct-sale mattress.
Range: how many models you really have to choose from
Dreamura has 11 adult mattresses in its range, from high-resilience foam to pocket springs, in medium, medium-high and high firmness. The range was not designed to cover every price point in the market — it was designed to cover sleep profiles.
- Takumi (匠, master craftsman) — pocket springs, memory foam and high-resilience foam. 26 cm, medium firmness. For mixed sleep positions and couples with different profiles.
- Hisui (翡翠, jade) — high-resilience foam and memory foam, no springs. 26 cm, firm. For lower back pain and for back sleepers.
- Mizu (水, water) — springs and high-resilience foam, no memory foam. 23 cm, high firmness. For those who prefer a traditional firm feel and good ventilation.
- Sora (空, sky) — springs and high-resilience foam, medium firmness. For those who sleep mainly on their side.
- Kumo (雲, cloud) — high-resilience foam, 20 cm, medium firmness. Entry point, first home, short-term rentals.
The full range is at all mattresses, and the comparison between the three spring models is at Takumi vs Mizu vs Sora.
Firmness and structure: what to really compare
When you compare two different brands, the label "firm" tells you almost nothing — each manufacturer calibrates its own scale. What can be compared rigorously is something else:
- Type of support. Pocket springs, high-resilience foam, or a combination of the two.
- Foam density, in kg/m³. Below 30 kg/m³ the foam loses its shape faster.
- Total height. A 26 cm mattress has room for more functional layers than an 18 cm one.
- Support zones. Differentiated zones support the hips more firmly and relieve pressure on the shoulder.
I always ask for these four numbers before comparing prices. If the product sheet doesn't have them, that is already telling.
Testing at home: 5 minutes in the store is not enough
Lying down for five minutes in a store doesn't tell you whether you'll sleep well. The body typically takes 14 to 21 nights to adapt to a new surface, and it's normal for the first few days to feel strange even when the mattress is right.
Dreamura offers a 100-night trial at home, with free returns if it doesn't work out. For brands sold through retail, the return policy is usually the retailer's, not the manufacturer's — confirm with whoever sells it to you, in writing. I wrote about what this period is and isn't in 100-night trial: how it works.
Warranty
The Pikolin warranty covers manufacturing defects for 3 years, with the usual exclusions: misuse, natural wear and manufacturing tolerances. Dreamura mattresses have a 10-year warranty; bed bases and headboards have 3 years.
Two notes that apply to any brand. First: almost all warranties exclude natural wear, which is different from a defect. Second: almost all define a sagging tolerance — typically 2 to 3 cm — below which no claim is possible. Read that clause before buying, whatever the brand. And always confirm the terms in force, because they change.
Price: compare the cost per night, not the price tag
A mattress that costs €600 and lasts 10 years works out at about 16 cents per night. One that costs €350 and needs replacing after 4 years works out at 24 cents. The lower price tag isn't always the cheaper option.
That's why I insist on foam density and height: they are the two indicators that best predict how many years the mattress will last. I went deeper into this in mattress value for money: how to evaluate.
Questions I get asked
Is Pikolin a Portuguese brand? It is a Spanish group, founded in Zaragoza. It has production in Portugal through Pikolin Lusitana, in Seixal.
Can I try a Dreamura mattress before buying? You can. We have a physical store at Av. das Túlipas 23, in Algés. And if you buy online, you get the 100-night trial at home.
Which one should I choose if I have lower back pain? Typically the Hisui or the Samurai, but it depends on your weight and the position you sleep in. Call me before deciding.
What if my partner and I want different firmness levels? In most cases it's solved with the Takumi plus a mattress topper on one side. You don't need two beds.

How to decide
Start with the position you sleep in and the firmness you need — that decides comfort far more than the brand on the label. Then compare the four numbers mentioned above. Only compare prices at the end.
