What is the inverted U shape?

The headboard drops down the sides instead of ending flat: the two side panels drop to bed height and close the piece in on itself, forming an upside-down U.

Does it take up more space than the bed?

It does. The side panels add width to the overall piece — check the available wall space, especially if you have close-fitting bedside tables.

120 cm. Measure the clear wall above the bed before ordering, especially if there's a low window or a sloped ceiling.

What's the point of the U shape?

The sides shield the bed from the cold wall and frame the bed's space within the room. It works well when the wall has irregularities or misaligned skirting, which the panels hide.

Is the frame solid wood?

Yes. It's not particleboard or MDF, and that's what lets the piece be re-upholstered later instead of replaced.

What's the difference from the Nagano?

The design. Both are 120 cm high, but the Toyama has an inverted U shape with side panels and the Nagano is tufted, with no panels. The frame and widths are the same.

Before deciding

The side panels take up wall space beyond the bed's width.

This is the measurement most people get wrong with this headboard. The U shape drops down the sides, and the overall piece takes up more width than the bed's nominal size. If you have close-fitting bedside tables or a short wall, measure before ordering.

Also measure the clear height: 120 cm added to the bed height rises quite a bit.
