Dormir com o outro: como as relações afetam o nosso descanso

Sleeping with someone else: how relationships affect our rest

Sharing a bed with someone can bring a sense of comfort, but it can also create challenges. Everyone has their own rhythm, prefers certain positions, moves differently during the night, and follows their own sleep routines. Sharing a bed involves adjusting your rest to the presence of another person, and this balance doesn't always come naturally.

For many, this closeness helps them relax. Feeling the presence of a loved one and falling asleep to the sound of nearby breathing can be comforting. For others, however, sleep becomes lighter, waking up more often during the night, which means the body doesn't recover as well.

There's no right choice. What works for some may be uncomfortable for others. Some couples sleep better together, especially on mattresses that don't allow you to feel each other's movements, such as pocket springs or some foam models. Others opt for different solutions, such as separate mattresses, twin beds, or even separate bedrooms. The choice should respect each person's rest and well-being.

The most important thing is to realize that co-sleeping also requires communication. Talking about what's bothering you, adjusting habits, and finding routines that work for both of you. Rest ceases to be an individual concern when you sleep with someone, and recognizing this is essential to creating a space where both of you can get quality rest.
